Open Mic Night
October 3rd
We’re happy to share that for our October 3rd Open Mic, our featured group will be the Writrix Salon, reading from their new publication: Filling In the Margins, stories and essays that explore hidden aspects of the self and others, and navigate changing social landscapes.
Writrix is a group of women writers assembled by Leslie Berliant (www.leslieberliant.com) and published by Writrix Press. Writrix has put out 4 anthologies - Writrix Volumes One and Two, Cassandra Speaks (All proceeds go to support reproductive rights) and Writrix Volume Three. They also participate in Writrix Salons, readings of original work that take place on Zoom. The next Writrix Salon is October 12th from 3-4pm.
Reader Bios:
Leslie Berliant is a poet, author, and writing teacher published in journals, magazines and the anthologies Big City Mantra and Deliver Us. She offers writing courses, retreats, and private writing coaching. She hosts Writrix Salons, monthly readings of original written work, and is the editor and publisher at Writrix Press. www.leslieberliant.com
Laurel Carpenter is a copywriter who lives in Upstate Manhattan with her partner Charles. Born in Albany, NY and raised in Burlington, VT, she enjoys writing stories about her 1970s feral childhood and eccentric family. A three-time contributor to the Writrix anthology series, she is working on a Gen-X road-trip memoir/novel that she hopes will speak to her disaffected generation, if she can finish it before the world ends.
Evie Edman is a writer and painter living in Roanoke Virginia where she owns Evie’s Bistro and Bakery. She chronicles her life's stories on a keyboard, canvas, and in buttercream.
Jennifer Fanning has an edgy yet zen voice and perspective, she is passionate about life, yoga, energy medicine, the arts, lgbtqia+ rights & freedoms, traveling and her family. You can find her through her website edgyZENspa.com or on social media @edgy zen spa
Liz Linder is a photographer and writer based in Brookline, MA. To learn more about her work, visit www.lizlinder.com
Kristen Petersen is a professor of American culture in Boston, Massachusetts. She teaches courses about (shh, don’t tell anyone!) U.S. immigration history, social justice movements, women’s and gender studies, and fairy tale heroines. These days, while she prefers to read and write fiction, some stories are more important to tell.
Corinna Raznikov is a writer and photographer living just above Cape Cod with her family. You can see more of her work and writing, and follow her yoga teaching at www.corinnaraznikov.com and on Instagram at Corinnaraznikovphoto. We have a special treat for you for the August 1st Open Mic!
The Theatre of Eternal Values will be performing for us as our headliner. They are touring fairs, festivals and town-squares across NY, Boston and D.C. with a 15-minute interactive theatre performance that asks - how do we survive the storms of life and find the shores of inner peace? Loosely based on scenes from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, this vibrant, playful show combines clowning, sea-shanties, giant puppets, trumpets, dance and moments of meditation to create a unique theatrical experience that celebrates community and joy.
